The mining sector continues to be at the fulcrum of many countries’ economic development. The subject of mining, though nearly as old as humankind itself, today remains at the heart of many debates. While much literature on either mining or environmental protection has been published separately, this book integrates environmental issues into the sphere of mining. It expounds on the view that mining activities deface the environment and, as such, the need for environmental protection must be considered. This book, therefore, integrates environmental issues into the sphere of mining, thus affording its readers an appreciation of the intrinsic connection between mining and environmental protection.
Written in an accessible manner with simplicity and clarity, the book will appeal and be useful to multiple audiences, including researchers, students, policymakers, legal practitioners and the interested public.
