Format: Softcover
The full-colour A3 Big Books is a classroom resource which can be used (CAPS requirement) for group-reading and reading aloud with the learner/child in close proximity such as on a rug next to their classmates/independent-schooling educator. They are integrated with the Life Skills’ prescribed CAPS topics and may be used to enrich the Life Skills Foundation Phase topic on the topical interest table prescribed for the week.
The Big Books introduce the learners to a variety of text types. They include story text, simple factual text, rhymes, riddles, jokes and graphic text, etc.
These books have been specially developed to introduce learners/child learner, in an informal manner, to a variety of characteristics of printed text. The level of difficulty of the Big Books increases from the first easy repetitive text (with some include sight words and simple spelling words) in Big Book 1 to Big Book 16.
Learners/independent-schooling children are expected to use their increasing visual literacy skills and understanding/skill of language. This book ties in with the topic “Nature around me” in the Learner’s Book and Teacher’s Guide.
The books have also been developed so that they can be used in more that one reading session as is comprehensively explained in the teaching plans.
