Vir die afgelope twee dekades skryf sy gereeld vir koerante, tydskrifte en vir universiteits- en navorsingspublikasies oor Suid-Afrikaanse wetenskap en die mense daaragter. Sy stel onder meer ’n landbounavorsingsblad vir die Landbouweekblad saam, en skryf ’n maandelikse omgewingsrubriek vir die tydskrif Lig. Engela het op Oudtshoorn grootgeword, en woon reeds byna twee dekades op Wellington in die Boland saam met haar man en twee dogters.
