I am Costa: From Meth to Marathons
Author: Costa Carastavrakis
Format: Paperback
Costa Carastavrakis grew up feeling like the odd one out — the Greek boy with the strange food who could not catch a ball, and who was told often enough who he was that he came to believe it. He was drinking by the age of twelve.
He went on to build an outwardly successful life, but his addictions kept pace with it, until crystal meth brought the whole structure down. What followed was a slow climb out of alcohol and drugs into a life built on acceptance, with fitness as the engine — far enough to turn him into a marathon and triathlon athlete.
He named the book after himself because he no longer needs anywhere to hide, and he tells it with enough humour to make the darkness of addiction readable, and recovery of body, mind and spirit look possible.
